Your data, plainly
Last updated 30 October 2026
The short version
We collect your email address, and your first name if you give it, so we can send you The Eurobeat. We never sell or share it, and we don't show ads. The website has no cookies, no analytics and no third-party trackers. You can unsubscribe with one click, or ask us to delete everything.
Who is responsible
Forward Europe publishes this website and The Eurobeat. It is a volunteer project run from Sweden. For anything about your data, write to hello@fwdeu.org.
What we collect when you subscribe
- Your email address, to send you the newsletter.
- Your first name, only if you type it in, to greet you.
- Your IP address, the date and the page you signed up on, as a record of your sign-up and to stop abuse. Our newsletter software also estimates your country from your IP address.
What we learn when you read
Each issue contains a tiny image and links that pass through our server. They tell us whether an issue was opened, roughly from which country, and which links were clicked. We only look at this in total, to learn which stories readers care about. To opt out, turn off images in your email app; many apps already block or mask this.
When you visit the website
- No cookies, analytics, ads or social media widgets. Fonts are served from our own server, so your browser only connects to fwdeu.org.
- Our host keeps standard server logs (IP address, page, browser and time) for about a week, for security and troubleshooting.
- The sign-up form keeps a scrambled (hashed) form of your IP address for up to two hours, to block spam.
Why we are allowed to
We send the newsletter because you asked for it: your consent (GDPR Article 6(1)(a)). You can withdraw it at any time by unsubscribing. Server logs and spam protection rely on our legitimate interest in keeping the site secure (Article 6(1)(f)).
Who handles your data for us
- Opalstack hosts the website and our subscriber list, on a server in Germany.
- Amazon Web Services (Amazon SES) delivers the emails, from the United States. Amazon is certified under the EU–US Data Privacy Framework, which the EU recognises as giving adequate protection.
Both act only on our instructions. Nobody else receives your data, and we never sell, rent or trade it.
How long we keep it
We keep your details while you are subscribed. When you unsubscribe, we keep your email address marked as unsubscribed, so that you are never emailed again by mistake. If you would rather we delete it completely, just ask.
Your rights
You can ask to see the data we hold about you, correct it, delete it, receive a copy, or object to or limit how we use it. Every issue has an unsubscribe link, and you can also email hello@fwdeu.org. We will answer within a month.
If you are unhappy with how we handle your data, you can complain to the Swedish Authority for Privacy Protection (IMY) or to the data protection authority where you live.
Changes
If we change how we handle your data, we will update this page and the date at the top.
